In most cases of bullying, the kids who have been bullied in the past, or those who have a low self-esteem, are the ones who end up being the bullies.  

What is Michigan Doing to Prevent School Violence?

"Zero-Tolerance" policies have been enacted regarding school violence in Michigan.
"The Michigan Zero-Tolerance law, enacted in 1999 requires the expulsion of students for certain acts of weapons possessions, as well as physical or verbal abuse-terms whose definitions are open to interpretation" (Youth Violence in Michigan 2).

What Can Make the School More Safe?

Some people in the communities push for things such as metal detectors to help ensure no weapons are coming into the school. Others believe counseling and a good way of communication between the students family and school is better.

When is Bullying Happening?

Most bullying occurs during the school day for elementary students, and on the bus and out of school for junior high and high school students. Although some bullying in high school takes place outside of the classroom, it usually involves kids from school.

Why is Bullying so Common?

Children who have low self esteem or those who have been bullied by others, usually bully to make themselves feel better about themselves as well as more powerful. In some cases, children who have been abused by parents or raised in a poor manner become bullies at school.
